MAGNE-FLO is a business, which specializes in the design, development and production of Excess Flow Valves (EFVs) that provides safety protection for an unlimited number of applications. For example, it is currently configured for (but not limited to) propane gas gills, propane gas construction meters, oxygen breathing systems and NATURAL GAS.
The excess flow valves name MAGNE-FLO, are produced as capsules that provide exceptional application flexibility. The MAGNE-FLO excess flow valve capsules can easily be inserted into valves, fittings, regulators, hoses, pipes etc., to provide excess flow protection in flow systems containing gases or liquids. Standard capsules come in three sizes (28mm and 22mm with compression fittings, lengths 28mm x 65mm and 22mm x 90mm) and twelve different closure flow settings. Capsules can be provided for almost any flow setting or fluid.

The product is a plate magnet system packaged as a self-contained capsule, which can be easily inserted into a variety of fittings and plumbing fixtures.

Operation: The Magne-Flo Excess Flow Valve (EFV) is a magnetically controlled capsule. It closes at specified flow rates, which are regulated by the flow area and magnetic strength.
Self-Regulation: A small by-pass flow is allowed (>2 SCFH) to re-establish system pressure upon closure. This by-pass is regulated at seat formation, and is extremely accurate for all Magne-Flo EFVs.
Closure Flows: The range of closure flows for the Magne-Flo EFVs are controlled by the inlet pressure to the capsule, (see attached table). The capsule activates at pressures of 50% of anticipated operational pressures of the appliance, roughly 2” to 20” W.C.
Capsule Size: The Magne-Flo for natural gas is manufactured to suit a 15mm, 22mm and a 28mm long capsules. This is to accommodate the standard pipe sizes in UK homes.
We anticipate the eventual need for larger sized capsules and will design capsules for larger application as need and volume warrant.
Description: Magne-Flo is the name for compact excess flow valves (EFVs) which can easily be inserted into a flow system component (valve, fitting, regulator, hose, pipe etc.) to limit flow.
Applications: Magne-Flo EFVs will limit the accidental discharge of gas of liquids, which are: -
- Combustible
- Explosive
- Toxic
- Environmentally undesirable
- Expensive
- Corrosive
- Noxious
They can also provide flow protection for surges, hose whip, line breaks, component failures, etc.
Operation: Magne-Flo EFVs contain a magnetically operated valve, which is designed to close at a specific flow rate. After closure, small by-pass flow permits automatic resetting of the valve after the flow problem has been corrected with no nuisance shutdowns.
Performance: Magne-Flo EFVs can be provided for almost any flow of fluid (gas or liquid). Some typical performance ratings for production capsules with various fluids are shown later.
Configurations: Magne-Flo EFVs come in three basic sizes. 28mm, 22m and the 15mm in diameter.
Installation: It is recommended that the 28mmor 22mm valves are fitted as close to the meter as possible to protect the gas supply. The appliances in vulnerable situations should fit the 15mm valve. Restriction of flow is negligible.
Fluids: Primarily this capsule was designed for use with Natural Gas, but other gasses/liquids will work.
Quality Control: Every EFV is tested for closure flow and by-pass flow. This assures that every Magne-Flo valve will operate as specified.
Magnets: Can be both ferrite and ceramic depending on the closure flows required. The material has been tested for the effects of oxidation and found to continue operation without the loss of effectiveness over the operational life of the capsule.

In the event of gas leak someone is responsible for the consequences.
If you smell gas call 0800 111 999. Transco will come and shut off the gas. Then the supplier of gas to the home or the owner has to arrange for the fault to be rectified. This may be with the benefit of a maintenance contract. If the householder is the tenant, then the landlord may be responsible.
